Abuse
How to define it...
How to talk to our kids about it...
Letting our children explore this interactive website opens the door to great discussion. The children may wish to explore and have open ended conversation indvidually or in group settings about abuse. The setting should be a safe environment where the students are able to share experiences and emotions that are evoked by the website and their interactions with it.

1. Report the abuse. Children may not have the resources to report what is happening to them and as adults it is our jobs to speak for our children.
2. Create a safe, predictable environment where the child can come to to talk, feel emotions, or just feel comfort in being safe.
3. Encourage children to verbalize emotions and identify with their emotions. You do not have to agree but to have someone to talk to may be comforting to the child.
4. Model proper behavior in all situations. The child may not see how to handle emotions or situations properly, so setting an example can help break the cycle of abuse.
5. Focus on positives in the classroom with recognition and encouragement by finding children's areas of interest and expertise
